Embarking on a two-day, one-night hiking and trekking adventure offers an incredible experience traversing Pergasingan Hill near Sembalun Village, exploring bamboo gardens, traditional houses of Sembalun, Gunung Selong, and concluding in Sembalun Village, East Lombok.
Itinerary:
Arrival day: Upon your arrival at Lombok Island, we will pick you up and transfer you to Senaru. After checking into your hotel in Senaru, you will meet your guide for a briefing about your trip. If you arrive before 4:00 PM and have time, we will take you on a guided tour to the waterfall, after which you can return to the hotel and enjoy some leisure time.
Day 1.
After breakfast at the hotel, a 45-minute drive will take you to Sembalun. We invite you to embark on a two-day journey through the rice fields, engage with the farmers, and enjoy the breathtaking views from the elevated hill known as Pergasingan.
From 637 meters above, the panorama over the villages and fields of Sembalun Lawang and Sembalun Bumbung offers a magnificent view of the ancient caldera of Mt. Rinjani.
The walking tour includes an explanation of the local tree species that grow at various elevations and their use by the local people for traditional remedies. It also covers how we can assist the local conservation group by planting trees and orchid species. We will visit the site where, according to legend, it was used by the king for spinning top games. Your guide and porters will teach us how to play the spinning top. The overnight camping area is called Urat Batua, where, long ago, villagers would pray before starting to hunt wild deer. A spiritual leader will pray and bestow blessings on all members of the group before the porters and guide set up the tents. This is a wonderful place to watch the sunset and sunrise, as well as to view the summit slopes of Mt Rinjani and the distant mountain of Agung on Bali.
As dusk falls, the lights of Sembelia town and the distant port town of Labuhan Lombok come into view. Following dinner, we enjoy entertainment from our guide or porters playing a melodious flute, all while admiring the celestial tropical night sky from approximately 1,773 meters above sea level.
Don’t forget your camera – the scenery is breathtaking!
Day 2. After breakfast, trek down through the rainforest to Karya sub-village, the village of Sajang, for about 3 hours to see the seven wells (Sumur Tujuh). Then, re-enter the forest to spot the Black Monkey (Ebony Leaf Monkey) and listen to the cacophony of various birds, as well as observe different vegetation, including plants used for medicinal purposes by local people. Enjoy lunch in the forest, and then continue the walk for approximately 1.5 hours to the waterfall where, according to legend, the king would bathe his horses. There will be time to explore and enjoy the stay at the waterfall.
On the return journey, a leisurely walk through the community’s layout allows the guide to share insights into their traditions and customs of village life, including their daily work cultivating coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Depending on the season, you may also have the opportunity to join them in their tasks. Following this, an easy hike will take you to explore the foothills of the volcano, Gunung (Mount) Rinjani, where the community’s fields are still farmed in the traditional manner of their ancestors.
